Won’t believe BJP secular till it acts against Modi for riots’

Taking a swipe at the BJP, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said no one will believe the party is committed to secularism unless it takes action against Narendra Modi for the 2002 anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat.
The comments came a day after senior leader L K Advani told the BJP National Council Meeting that there was a need to strive for an imaginative re-projection of the party’s commitment to secularism.
“Advani talks of projecting NDA as a symbol of secularism in 2014. Can any secular person trust them till Modi rules the roost in BJP ?” Singh tweeted Saturday.
Later, he told reporters: “Are L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti ready to accept, in court, their crime in the demolition of Babri Masjid? If they agree, then it will be accepted that there is some substance in their talk of communal harmony. Secondly as long as no action is taken by the BJP against Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, who openly participated in riots in the state in 2002 against innocent Muslims, nobody will trust their talk of communal harmony.”
